Grocery Shopping Tips to Save You Money at the Checkout

Look around and you’ll find masses of people trying to save money at the grocery store. People are hunting through books and websites for shopping tips that will help their dollar go further. Luckily, your grocery store is full of clues so you can get the most from your money.

Check Unit Prices – If you look at the price of a bottle of ketchup or even a loaf of bread, there is usually a unit price on the tag. The unit price tells you how much money you’re spending per ounce. As food packages shrink, thus offering less product, it pays to see how much you’re really spending per ounce.

Scanners Can Be Wrong – When understanding prices go into effect, some items might not have been updated to reflect the income price, or were improperly cued in when prices were scanned. It’s important to watch as items are getting scanned at the checkout. If you aren’t healthy to watch, be sure to look over your receipt before you leave the store. You might get the item for free or the difference back.

Journal the Prices – Many savvy shoppers keep a price journal or notebook filled with the places they shop for groceries along with the prices of their most bought products. This way when they are in a new store or looking over the sales, they can comparison shop before they buy. Oftentimes a store’s prices can differ up to thirty cents or more. This can be a good savings if you are using coupons.

Even the easy task of slicing coupons can bring you hundreds of grocery savings each month. Local news stations and even newspapers are passing shopping tips on to consumers each week in hopes of beating the dip in the economy, and shoppers are taking notice.
