If there’s one thing any tourist visiting London needs to know it’s where to shop. The city is an astonishing place for shopping and whether you want cheap and cheerful or designer adjudge the choices are endless.

Whether you can afford to purchase or will be merely restricted to looking but not touching, Knightsbridge is a must. As well as long rows of designer and upmarket boutiques, this is where you will find the world famous Harrods and Harvey Nicholls. Harrods remains the top shop for top people but browsers are equally welcome. There’s bound to be something you can afford so you can go home with that all important titled carrier bag. Pop just over the way to Harvey Nicks and view floors full of mythologic home wares and fashions then up to the 4th floor for a cappuccino and cake.

If it’s department stores that you enjoy, head to Oxford Street.  Here you’ll find Selfridges, one of the city’s oldest and largest stores as well as Home of Fraser stores.

Oxford Street is also the UK’s premier “high street”. Each household study in British retailing from Top Shop to Boots, from Marks and Spencer to HMV are along this long stretch of retail heaven punctuated by each kind of eatery imaginable.

If you want to shop how the other half shop, make sure you end up in Bond Street. This is the home of all the very ideal in designer labels in fashion and luxury goods.

London shopping isn’t all about brick and mortar stores. The markets are great places for bargains and also a different view of the London culture. Whilst it might seem odd to point you in the direction of the meat market at Smithfield, if you’re any primeval riser you can enjoy the spectacle of the butchers and traders do their business for the morning and then share a breakfast pint of ale with them. Beware – it’s quite an experience to wash down your full English fry up with a pint of bitter at 6am. If you’re a foodie, the Borough Market is the haunt of chefs, gastronomes and anyone with a slight interest in food.

Another of London’s famous markets is Portobello Road.  Antiques, bric-a-brac, curiosities, objets d’art and knick-knacks are in a big abundance here. If it’s an individual statement piece for your home, you’ll find it in Portobello Road. For terrific bargains and a real slice of London life in the raw, it’s hard to beat Camden Market. Based around and on Camden Lock, this is so much more than a market – it’s a community. There’s the occasional whiff of “new age” but as a spectacle for tourists it’s not to be missed. Another market worth a visit is in Leadenhall Street. This beautiful covered path still retains all its original Victorian features and is right in the heart of the city.

Shopping in London is serious stuff. Each borough has its own shopping centre/mall or main shopping street – notable ones include Kensington High Street, Whiteleys at Bayswater, Hampstead High Street, Fulham Road and Brent Cross Shopping Centre.

Even if you’re visiting London on a budget, a spot of window shopping can be a pleasure.

At Falguni and Shane Peacock’s Spring /Summer 2011 I was blown away. I didn’t know what to expect, for my top 6 London Fashion Week shows, this husband and wife team Falguni and Shane Peacock’s collection had it all and showed astonishing pieces.  Beautiful crafted graphic print floaty maxis to hard-wear studded body con dresses there was something special for the occasion. Throughout this collection we saw a common armour theme, featuring shoulder pads, Bra cups, belts, metal plates, and even knee pads on trousers.

Graphic prints had a certain original look about them the collection was inspired by animals, ‘under the threat of extinction’ the prints in this collection resembles scales, bees and tiger stripes. They were so many favourites of mine in this collection, I loved the yellow and black graphic print body with oversized studded Perspex shoulder pads.  Astonishing collection dresses and bodysuits all teamed up with sheer black tights and black tights socks.

I truly love to own one of this piece in my wardrobe it is futuristically sexy, super hero. I am in love with the two Indian designer, I’m already thinking and looking forward to what I will see from them next season.

I like that, they kept the Hair down and make-up with black eyeliner was kept equally simple.

Following London Fashion Week will be London Fashion Weekend, which takes place at the Natural History Museum and offers visitors the opportunity to buy designer clothes at income prices.

The Designers

Luella Bartley will show her Spring/Summer 2008 collection at fashion week, which also coincides with the launch of her new flagship store in Mayfair. It’s unclear whether Vivienne Westwood is showing this year but if she does, we never change to be impressed by the grand chick of fashion.

It was Marc doc in February but who will be the speak of Fashion Week in September? Fashion week favourite Hussein Chalayan should be returning with a collection that promises a blend of simplicity and volume. There are also rumours that John cordial is returning to London with another one of his spectacularly outlandish collections. Inspired by the French Revolution, one of his last shows featured a realistic-looking guillotine and so we’re can’t move to see what he’ll do this time. Hot young designer Henry Holland is also one to look out for. His cheeky Home of Holland adjudge is guaranteed to raise a smile with bitchy slogan t-shirts and androgynous styling. Needless to say, we’re anticipating Julien McDonald to dazzle us with a glamourous Givenchy show.
The Fashion Industry and Model’s Health

Since the death of catwalk models Luisel Ramos and Ana Carolina Reston, fashion bosses have been under increasing pressure to ban size zero models. However, it’s unclear whether they plan to do this at fashion week. However, the organisers of Madrid Fashion Week 2006 illegal models with a Body Mass Index below 18 and pressure is mounting on London Fashion Week bosses to do the same.

The Independent Model Health Inquiry has also found it “profoundly inappropriate” that young girls should be portrayed as adult women on the catwalk and have called for them to be illegal from fashion week. However, it is unclear whether they will be. Lily Cole, Kate Moss and Noemi Campbell all modelled before their sixteenth birthday but should they have been granted to?

You have often heard one say, “A man is known by the company he keeps”. However it seems these days that a mortal is more likely to be known by the attire he/she wears. It is considered, that the biggest mistake a mortal can ever commit is a fashion faux pas. One thing that is inevitable in the fashion world is change. We are consistently being presented with various advertisement gigs that portray what famous celebrities are wearing and this has a direct impact on our lives. While shopping for clothes, a typical teenager would often say, “I want a dress that resembles what Bono was wearing in his latest music video”. Today, fashion dictates our lives and what we wear. Whether it is at a celebration or at work, we want our dress to reflect our taste and attitude. On other occasions, we are keener on making a individualized style statement.

No lucid citation can be prefabricated regarding the advent of the London fashion culture. It dates back to the period during the Hippie culture which was originally a youth movement that began in the United States. It started during the 1960s and spread all over the world. This was probably one of the first major fashion influence that the world had witnessed.
